Course Overview

Tuina or Chinese massage therapy is commonly defined as the ancient healing art of fingers and strength. Tuina has been practiced in China for over 5000 years. It’s a well-respected treatment modality known to be helpful and safe for a wide range of conditions. For these reasons, it’s widely accepted as a complementary and alternative medicine modality rapidly gaining international favor. Its efficacy has been demonstrated for the management of many medical and psychiatric conditions.

SOHA Institute – offers a Tui Na skills training program taught in English/Chinese. Our instructors, with rich clinical and teaching experience in Chinese massage therapy (Tui Na) for local and international students.  

 

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

Providing an introduction and basic training to Tuina manipulations commonly used, key practical skills in diagnosis and manual treatment for Musculo-skeletal disorders commonly treated with Tuina manipulations.

 

TOPICS COVERED:

These 2 days certificate program consists of lectures, and hands-on workshops:

1.General introduction to Tuina and its manipulations

2.Relaxing manipulation

3.Movement and stretching manipulations including procedure of neck and upper back, shoulder and upper limbs, lower back and lower limbs

4.Tuina treatment for Internal diseases

The curriculum emphasizes a blend of skill-based practical exercises and peer-to-peer learning in groups.

 

LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the completion of the program, students should be ABLE to:  

  1. Have a general understanding of the basic theory of TCM, apply yin-yang and five elements theories to understand the physiological function and pathological changes of the human body, in addition to its relationship between nature and human beings.
  2. Grasp the basic theory of meridian theory, including running course, distribution and indications of 12 regular meridians, 8 extraordinary vessels and collaterals.
  3. Study the theory of Acupuncture points, learn the location and indication of approximately 60 commonly-used Acupuncture points.
  4. Have an overall understanding of definition for tuina therapy, mechanism and therapeutic principle of tuina, Indication and contraindication for tuina therapy.
  5. Be familiar with tuina manipulations commonly used, including their operation, essential, function, application, and attention. Commonly used manipulations contain yizhichan- thumb swing, gun-rolling, rou-kneading, an-pressing, anrou-pressing kneading, dian-digital pressing, tanbo-cross fibre friction, na-grasping, nie-pinching, cuo-foulage, nian-finger twisting, etc.
  6. Grasp method of diagnosis and manual treatment for soft tissue injury in spine, shoulder, and knee.
  7. Grasp method of manual treatments for internal and gynecologic diseases.

 

WHO SHOULD ENROLL

This program is open for anyone who is interested in Chinese massage therapy (Tui Na) . It is equally suited for soft-tissue practioners who would like to build or improve their knowledge and techniques of Chinese massage therapy (Tui Na). Participants are not required to have TCM background.

This program is going to be take place regularly every month with same contents. (subject to no of students)

COMPLETION CERTIFICATE:

Students will be granted Certificate of Attendance by Soha Institute on completion.

 

INSTUCTORS

Khoo Eng Lim, BEng (Hons), MSc, DACE, is the founder and director of SOHA Institute and has been in the training and education business for decades.  As the key person, he charts the development of SOHA Institute to meet licensing requirements, course accreditation and establish strategic alliances with commercial players to create job opportunities and engaging graduate therapists in Community Involvement Projects. As well as running the business side of things, and undertaking course development work including writing courseware in diverse areas of competency-based training in the Healing Arts, he still actively teaches Massage Therapy, Diet & Nutrition Studies and supervising case study /assignments.
